This guide aims to instruct users on how to enable the Network Time Protocol (NTP) on various Spot AI camera models. The application of NTP settings largely depends on whether your cameras have internet access. Cameras connected to the internet can utilize any public NTP server address, while cameras without internet access can use the Spot AI appliance as the NTP server.
Scenario 1: Cameras with Internet Access
Here's how to set NTP on cameras with MAC addresses beginning with b4:4d:43:
- Access the camera's configuration page and log in.
- Navigate to 'Configuration'.
- In the common box located on the left, click 'Device' then 'Date and Time'.
- Toggle NTP on
- Enter the NTP Server Address of your choice (test to confirm it works):
- time.google.com
- time.windows.com
- time.apple.com
- time.nist.gov
- Set the 'Update Interval (seconds)' to 600 or more.
Here's how to set NTP on cameras with MAC addresses beginning with 0c:cc:47:
- Access the camera's configuration page and log in.
- Navigate to 'Setup'.
- In the common box located on the left, click 'Time'.
- Enter the NTP Server Address of your choice (test to confirm it works):
- time.google.com
- time.windows.com
- time.apple.com
- time.nist.gov
- Set the 'Update Interval (seconds)' to 600 or more.
- Click 'Save'.
Here's how to set NTP on cameras with MAC addresses beginning with 2c:6f:51:
- Access the camera's configuration page and log in.
- Proceed to 'Configuration'.
- Navigate to 'System > System Configuration'.
- Open 'Time Settings'.
- Change SNTP to 'Customize' for setting NTP.
- Enter the NTP Server Address of your choice (test to confirm it works):
- time.google.com
- time.windows.com
- time.apple.com
- time.nist.gov
- Ensure 'NTP auto-time' is switched to 'On'.
- Set the 'Time Interval' according to your preference for time sync frequency (generally between 10 and 60 minutes).
- Click 'Save'.
Scenario 2: Cameras DON'T have internet access
Here's how to set NTP on cameras with MAC addresses beginning with b4:4d:43:
- Access the camera's configuration page and log in.
- Navigate to 'Configuration'.
- In the common box located on the left, click 'Device' then 'Date and Time'.
- Toggle NTP on
- Set the NTP Server Address to the Spot AI appliance IP address
- This is typically the IP address on the appliance where the first three octets match that of the camera.
- Ex. Appliance IPs: 192.168.4.3 and 10.10.5.3, Camera IP: 192.168.4.6
- 192.168.4.# matches both the camera's IP and the appliance's IP, therefore 192.168.4.3 (the appliance IP) would be the correct IP to use for the NTP server on the camera.
- More information about NTP on the Spot AI Appliance.
- If you're unsure about which IP to use, contact your network administrator or Spot AI Support.
