The reason cameras show a MAC address as 00:00:00:00:00:00 is related to How spot discovers cameras:
- The Spot Appliance discovers cameras through ARP broadcasts. Based on the ARP response, we can tell the manufacturer of the device by doing an OUI lookup on the MAC address. As ARP is a layer 2 networking protocol, for the Spot Appliance to be able to auto-discover a camera, they need to be in the same broadcast domain.
- The reason for 00:00:00 MAC address is likely because there is layer 3 routing in between the appliance and the camera. Layer 3 routes separate broadcast domains, preventing the appliance from seeing the cameras. Cameras that are manually added have traffic routed through the layer 3 device, which prevents the MAC address of the camera from being seen as it is routed through a layer 3 router.
NOTE: This will not limit any Spot AI features offered. You should able to see the camera feed and use all dashboard features as expected.
